Okay, okay, this is a bit of a controversial one. Snapped up the NYX Shine Killer primer/corrector on a whim – even though reviews have not been particularly stellar – and decided to give it a go myself. As a member of the unofficial ‘Oily T-zone Club’ I have been through more blotting papers and mattifying creams, cleansers, balms and serums than is reasonable. So, what’s the verdict? I was expecting a cream, but the formula is more of a clear gel and it does sink into the skin after a few seconds without being sticky or leaving a weird film (so a plus there!) It does what it says and leaves a matte finish (another plus) while also doing a pretty good job of filling in pores around the nose area (more pluses.) The only real downside was that it didn’t last more than and hour or two and then I had to reapply. Will definitely use again and haven’t broken out at all, but not sure if it’s a repurchase (yet.) Stay Tuned!
Dry skin. Yep, it can be an itchy, scratchy pain in the epidermis. That’s where this little pink bottle of amazingness comes in. The Healthy Hand & Nail conditioning lotion from Vaseline does some serious smoothing and soothing and has quickly become my new ‘hand hero.’ It’s fast-absorbing and non-greasy – seriously, no sticky residue to be had here people! Okay, so we’re not exactly saving the world, but conquering dry skin can sometimes make you feel a little bit like a skincare superhero 🙂
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby.
…And along with the Summer months comes everything from skin damage dangers to locks that have lost their lustre. Here are few beauty bits that I’ve discovered recently that have been helping to ease the Summer’s effects.
The Moisture Magicians
Avène Thermal Spring Water spray is perfect for gals who tend to be a bit on the oily side such as myself and need a refresher on those more humid days. This soothing and cooling mist sprays gently over the face and is fine enough that it’s not too aggressive. You can also grab the handy to-go size which fits perfectly in a hand bag or even slide it into the pocket of your gym bag or beach tote.
St. Ives Naturally Indulgent Coconut Milk & Orchid Extract Fresh Hydration Lotion. Coconut Milk – check. Orchid Extract – check. Spray on lotion – yes! The body lotion of the future for those (ahem, including moi) who can be bit too lax as far as moisturizing regularly and meticulously.
The Finishing Flourishes
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Captivating is the perfect peachy-pink shade to take your cheeks into full blown summer. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes are always a winning formula with brilliant pigment and staying power but THIS COLOUR!
Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment with African Macadamia Oil, Ah yes, the hair oil phenomenon. I am and will always be forever devoted to my Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum, but this is a worthy and comparable drug store alternative. You get a good amount of product as well and only need a small amount to do the job so the bottle will definitely get you through the summer months. Pluses all around!
The Face Bases
Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+ sees sunscreen take on the BB trend with this tinted formula which is the first facial UVA/UVB protection
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in ‘Eden’ is a triple threat primer formula that also works as an eyeshadow AND a highlighter. This matte, tinted variation of the cult beauty favourite withstands the heat and takes a few steps out of your routine especially on those particularly hot, sweaty days.
